Orthodox Christianity for Absolute Beginners
More and more people are discovering Orthodox Christianity in the west, by which I mean the faith and life of the Orthodox Church. Sometimes this is by, say, marrying a Greek Orthodox Christian or perhaps by going to the Holy Land or Russia for a holiday or pilgrimage. What is perhaps less well known is that the Orthodox churches are growing in the west and particularly those that seek to make the faith and worship accessible in the local language and by respecting the local culture and history of the indigenous Christian tradition - particularly in the first 1000 years when the west was Orthodox and in unity with the eastern churches. This site, therefore, is for anyone who is interested to find out more about Orthodox Christianity without any obligation, expectation or commitment.
How to Use this Site
The best way is to read through
in order but not all in one session! Each unit follows the previous one
in a logical order, building upon previous understanding. You could move
randomly through the index but you then run the risk of getting a
distorted or fragmentary view. It would be wise to take your time with
the material and consider the questions as part of your exploration.
The questions for reflection have been gathered together in one place on
the questions page for ease of reference but they will not make much
sense unless the pages that reference them are read as well. The
questions are for your use only. You can submit your own questions of course for
inclusion on this site or for private consultation by emailing me. There
is an email link in the questions section at the foot of each page. Do
also try the Discussion Board if you think that might be helpful.
Please do enjoy exploring here!
